Tips from our students

We are in full registration mode but at times, students are still confused about their next steps or what certain things mean.  Below is a wonderful story from our campus newspaper, Kapio.

Popular course across the UHCCs?

The top 10 enrolled in the UHCCs are (in no particular order):

ENG 100
MATH 103
PSY 100
HWST 107
SP 151
HIST 151
ART 101
MATH 100
FAMR 230
ICS 101

This is good to know especially for students interested in Dual Credit.  This is the very reason why my deadlines are so early because these courses fill up very fast.

Information about KCC's SELECT Programs (Health Science, Nursing, New Media Arts)

As we head into the college application season, it is important to share with your students our "select" programs.  These programs require successful completion of certain pre-requisites prior to applying to the actual program.  These degrees include ALL our Health Science Programs, plus Nursing and New Media Arts.

As students go through the application process, those interested in our HEALTH programs (including Nursing) should select Liberal Arts, Exploratory Health.  Those interested in New Media Arts, should select Liberal Arts.  This will place students in a degree program, which makes them eligible for Federal Financial Aid.

If your students are anxious about what classes to select, they can always refer to our website but most importantly, let them know there will be counselors at their New Student Orientation assisting with the course selection process.  At KCC, we truly believe in hand holding during their first year. =)    Students (and their families) are more than welcome to attend the Information Sessions and/or contact the program counselors.

2018 Middle and High School Counselors and Community Partners On-line Workshop

Hi everyone!

It seems the On-line Workshop provided an opportunity to gather important information about Kapi‘olani Community College without impacting your busy schedules.  I'm going to give it another shot this year.

If there are topics you would like to see, please let me know at sheldont@hawaii.edu or (808) 734-9842 and I will definitely research the topic and post.

Thank you!
