Tips for Middle and High School Students

Sorry for the very late post.  This was my favorite part of this project.  The final set of videos are tips for middle and high school students from our student leaders.

They were simply asked, "what would you tell them?"  Their answers were wonderful.

Tips for Middle School students.
Tips for High School students.

Thank you so much for being a part of this Workshop.  I hope this was beneficial to you all.  Please feel free to share with your colleagues, students, and their families.

Take care.

Dual Credit

This next video highlights KCC's Dual Credit opportunities.  The steps for your students can be found HERE.  Since the passing of HB 95, we are trying to label all these initiatives under the Dual Credit title.

We process all "dual credit" students the same so the only difference is 1) the location of the course(s), and 2) how the high school processes the credit.  The back end stuff (billing, MOAs, vouchers, etc.) is a COMPLETELY different story, that can be discussed over "coffee".  =)

It's ALL about the STUDENTS!

We love what we do because of our students.  Each student has a story and we love learning from THEM.  Some of them become campus leaders.

Kapi‘olani Community College has a WIDE RANGE of support services for students because we want them to strive for their highest.  The services we provide ranges from academic advising to disability support services.  A complete list of what we offer to our students can be found HERE.

New Student Orientation and Academic Programs

The video starts with me asking, "Why should someone choose Kapi‘olani Community College?"  The unfiltered, heart felt response of "its the most awesome college ever!" is actually something most KCC employees believe is the truth.  As a product of KCC, I do believe it is one of the best colleges out there.

We try our very best to make sure the transition into Kapi‘olani Community College is a smooth one. The New Student Orientation strives to make every new student feel they all have a place to succeed on this campus.

Students can also expect that same level of commitment from our Academic Programs.  The campus wants to help students make informed decisions about their academic goals and career aspirations.  Below are some examples of the types of services provided to the students of KCC.

Culinary Arts
Health Sciences Non-Credit Programs
Health Sciences Credit Programs
Nursing

Enjoy!

Admissions and Financial Aid

Planning is key.  We strongly encourage students to submit their Kapi‘olani Community College application and FAFSA as soon as they can.  As the videos will share the earliest students can apply for the Fall semester is September 1st followed by FAFSA on October 1st.  Don't forget students can apply for their FSA ID at any time.  Applying early will allow more time to create a more seamless transition into Kapi‘olani Community College.

Please click HERE to view the Admissions video and HERE for the Financial Aid video.  Please click on the "comment" link to post your questions.

Thanks!  Here we go!!

2017 Middle School and High School Counselors Workshop

Hi everyone.  I am trying something very new and that is to host our Counselors Workshop on-line for middle and high school counselors.  This is my attempt to be mindful of everyone’s work schedule and those on the other islands.  Starting on October 2, 2017, I will post something new each day of the week where counselors can view then respond and/or ask questions in the COMMENTS section.  This is an open site so feel free to share with your colleagues.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at sheldont@hawaii.edu or (808) 734-9842.  Thanks!  -Sheldon
